Food

Made an especially nice looking pan of enchiladas tonight. Also new oven covers to be seen to the left.

On the subject of food, we celebrated Dad's birthday a week ago with a chocolate cake. I went up to the store that morning, they had one chocolate cake in the case. I was quite impressed with the roses:

Nanowrimo

Nine days of Nano so far. Word count: 13,667.

This year I'm taking a turn at Steampunk style adventure. With some ecology thrown in. And magic.

This is my sixth year of participating in Nano. Reached 50k in 30 days in the first, second, and third years, participated but washed out in the fourth and fifth. This year I'm determined.  I want that badge.

If you're on the Nano bandwagon, too, good luck with your novel!

So much leftover Halloween candy here, we've been eating it for two days! It was a fun holiday, even though we didn't get our papier mache project finished; we were well-stocked with chocolate and I guess that and a working porch light are all you really need!

Made some banana bread in my green Pyrex loaf pan:

Kazoo the betta is doing fine. He's one of those fish who gets really tame, every morning he comes to the side of the bowl and flares his fins, and when I feed him he waits for me to blow the food across the top of the water so he can chase it. Either he enjoys chasing it, or he's just nearsighted, ha.

The TV station stopped airing The Doodlebops here and Saturday mornings are just not the same! I was so hoping they'd air Season 1 this time around - but at least we've still got DVDs.

It's Nov 2nd - and we wish Lisa J. Lennox (Dee Dee Doodle!) a Happy Birthday!

Bobbie's Banana Cake

Found this little piece of a manila folder with my mother's handwriting on it. Bought the ingredients to make it, will post results!

Crochet update

I got bored with the trellis afghan, then went back to the Neapolitan afghan, then got bored with that. I don't seem to have the patience for these long-haul projects that I used to. I did learn that Neapolitan is spelled 'nea' not 'neo' as I'd originally thought, and that there is apparently no traditional order to the pink, white, and brown. While I was image-searching this, I saw a Neapolitan ice-cream sandwich!

I lost my voice today all of a sudden, right after lunch. It's back now, though I'm trying to keep quiet and rest my throat. Don't know if it was laryngitis or what, but not being able to talk is  no fun.

The Hat

Bought this gardening hat at Home Depot. Glued a pale green ribbon on it.
Speaking of gardening, the Herbs in a Can project did not fly. But I can say I tried it. While I was at Home Depot I also bought four succulents, with big lofty goals involving mosaic work and green sand I found at the pet store.

Cabinet Redo

New green shelf paper in the kitchen cabinets, major decluttering, some new colorful dishes.

Cardinal

You can see the little red bird on the porch rail. The cylindrical shape above is the birdfeeder, the birds like to take seeds from it, then set the seed on the porch rail to get the hulls open.

This pic also shows my first attempt at using a caulking gun to replace the line along the back of the brown splashguard there, and the line between the white windowsill and the yellow wall, where the sugar ants were coming in. The caulk has not deterred the ants a whit, they just come in higher up the window screen. Still, it looks a lot nicer, all white and clean and new.

Herbs In A Can

So I bought a can of dirt and some herb seeds. I don't know why, I couldn't resist it, it was just so cute. I've got it planted and watered and set up and in the windowsill and we'll just see what happens. If I wasn't too tired to go anywhere but the grocery store I would have just gone to the hardware store for potting soil and seeds there and planted some larger containers, but it was right there in front of me, and I thought 'hey, mint!'.

Still very much enjoying watching The Doodlebops around here, and I still think it's the cutest show ever, and the most cheerful. The newest betta is named Kazoo- in honor of the frequently featured musical instrument- and the gravel is a custom blend of pink, blue, and orange.

And, of course we are wishing Chad McNamara (Rooney) a happy birthday today!

Just checked the weather on line, 35 degrees, no wonder I'm freezing!  Being that this is Florida, I don't own socks. Well, I have some knitted ones in the closet somewhere but I don't know where they are. Clearly my journey towards becoming a more organized person is still in progress.

Dusted off the space heater and plugged it in,  that should help. Still wide awake at three am, and sharing a plate of crackers with the dog.

I've been watching a children's program from Canada called The Doodlebops - it's the most adorable thing I've seen on TV in my life.

The show features Deedee, Rooney, and Moe Doodle (Lisa J. Lennox, Chad McNamara, and Jonathan Wexler) - three very colorful musicians (pink, blue, and orange, respectively) who play keyboard, guitar, and drums in a rock band for kids. The show is funny, zany, sweet, energetic, and filled with delightful little details, and the actors are wonderfully talented at their craft. There are bright colors, catchy music, cute puppets, helpful friends, entertaining theater performances, and everyone and everything is just generally adorable. And everybody laughs and smiles so much! The whole thing's just a joy to watch. It's nice, too, that it teaches kids little social lessons along the way (like 'share', 'don't give up', 'be considerate of your friends', that sort of thing), along with encouraging them to dance along during the performances. There are also several cute scenes that recur in each show but with clever little variations, like 'Don't pull the rope!' and 'Where's Moe?'

According to wiki, today is the birthday of one of the actors, so I'm wishing a very Happy Birthday to Jonathan Wexler!
